Appendix 1
An example of a Care Committee, convened by a local school
This Committee meets twice per term to pool information on students who are presenting a cause for concern.
The committee consists of:
- All Heads of Year
- Pastoral Co-ordinator
- School Nurse
- School’s Child Protection Officer
- Special Needs Co-ordinator
- Police Liaison Officer
- Representatives from Social Services
- Attached Youth Worker
- School Counsellor
- Primary School Liaison link
- Education Welfare Officer
The names of the students and their dates of birth will be circulated one week before the meeting together with the names of siblings and their schools where known.
The minutes of the meeting will not name individual students - members of the committee are expected to keep confidential notes on students they have an interest in. The Head of Year concerned will make notes for the student’s file.
Any member of the Care Committee can put forward a student’s name for discussion.
Any information relating to a Case Conference or a child on the at-risk register will be discussed in private.
The Pastoral Co-ordinator will organise and run the meeting.
