Toolkit for alcohol workers

   Information for parents

One of the important roles that an alcohol worker can – and should – perform is to make sure that parents understand the ways in which their drinking may affect their children. Many clients will express concern about the impact their drinking may be having, but are unlikely to know the nature of that impact or the factors that will help to reduce its severity. No parent sets out to harm their child and, even if they do not feel capable of putting information and advice into practice themselves, they may be willing to share it with a non-drinking partner or friend.

The joint NSPCC/Alcohol Recovery Project Family Alcohol Service in North London offers an example of an information sheet for parents. See Information for parents
